what’s your journey?

taking action to achieve my goals has been a lot like taking a canoe journey. when paddling a canoe, to move forward you paddle on both sides of the canoe. in life, to achieve your vision, you take action on goals in all areas of your life.

every journey and goal is different; you never know what your challenges will be, or when you will be challenged during your journey. the effort required to paddle, to take action towards your vision and goals can and will change.

our goals are like the ripples in the water from paddling the canoe, one expanding into another, effecting and joining one another.

on my various canoe journeys i’ve had many different experiences. i’ve been able to paddle leisurely. i’ve been faced with a challenge; a light wind, a strong wind, rain, or a change in direction.

in life there are times when your priority and focus will be on one area of your life and you will spend more time on the goals related to that area of your life to grow and achieve your vision. in these moments paddling, or taking actions for your goals, will be slow and steady to keep you moving forward.

on my canoe adventures i have had to change directions to make it to my destination. changing directions in a canoe requires you paddle more on one side of the canoe than the other. i have changed directions and was going into the wind so i needed to use more focused effort and energy. i have moved into a new direction and the wind was less and the paddling was easier because i wasn’t fighting against the wind.

there are times in life that you need to change directions, the goals you have may no longer be leading you to the vision that you have for yourself. in life changing your goals to achieve your vision may require more discipline and focus, or the goal may be easier because you are not fighting against the challenges that you faced going in the wrong direction.

there are times when i’ve been paddling in the right direction but a strong wind challenged me and i put forth a lot of energy and effort. paddling through challenges requires more determination and focus on your final destination in order to arrive to it. i didn’t let the wind stop me from reaching my destination; i’ve had to paddle with stronger and quicker strokes, i’ve had to move closer to shore stop and let the wind calm or the rain pass. i’ve gone with the flow letting the current carry me to rest, refresh and rejuvenate before continuing on my journey. i’ve had to ask for help in paddling, both to stop paddling and to begin paddling.

there are times when taking action on your goals you will have challenges; negative feelings of overwhelm doubt or worry, negative opinions from others, or a change in another area of your life. it is important to keep taking action towards your goals and move through and grow through the challenges you will face.

i have felt overwhelm when trying to achieve my goals. and the overwhelming feeling is accompanied with thoughts of doubt and worry, and questions of “how?” and “am i going to make it through?” at these times i take time to become aware of where i am, where i’ve been focusing my energies and actions. have i been taking action on one area of my life and neglecting another that i am out of balance and need to realign? do i need to let go and go with the flow?

most often when overwhelm tries to get to me it is because i’m not prioritizing my life and i haven’t had balance for too long. not too long ago i was feeling overwhelm and i became aware that it was because i wasn’t putting my health – specifically my physical activity as a priority. i was neglecting my morning exercise; running, yoga strength and stretching. and i know that when i’m not physically active, i’m affected in all areas of my life. it’s like ripples in the water disturbing and merging with the others. i’m not able to do my best, because i’m not physically my best.

it is important while on your journey, taking action to reach your goal, that you enjoy the journey! happiness comes from the experiences on your journey, not from reaching the final destination. reaching your final destination, achieving your goals is a time for celebration. during your journey and at the end of your journey practice being in present moment awareness. and as one journey ends, be ready for a new journey to begin.

enjoy the challenges of your journey!

when do you feel out of balance?

why do we always try to attain a balance that is unattainable?

i’m not sure. but i know that i do like to feel balance in my life.

with the different moments in my life, with the many different experiences that i live my life needs different things to create a feeling of balance.

keeping balance in my life means that i am prioritizing what’s most important in my life. one of the most important for me is being sure i prioritize myself and take me time for my body, mind and spirit.

what makes you feel balanced?

what’s most important to you?

live your truth!

do you live a balanced life?

i don’t believe that we ever truly have a balanced life. if life were balanced, it would probably be pretty dull. not being in balance gives us an area of our lives to experience challenge and growth.

what areas of your life are you feeling a little out-of-balance in?

  • personal and spiritual growth
  • fun and recreation
  • finances
  • business/career
  • family and friends
  • physical environment
  • health and wellbeing
  • romance

i’m feeling a little out-of-balance in my fun and recreation and business/career areas. i would like change in my business/career so i am getting my professional coach certification and enjoying coaching clients. i have a desire for more fun and recreation in my life, i want to enjoy more time and new experiences with my friends and family.

it’s amazing to me how you can focus on one area of your life to make it better and more of what you want it to be, and it effects all the other areas of your life as well. you create more in your life area of focus and it ripples into the other areas of your life and they become better too.

are you causing ripples in your life?

what area of life would you like to focus on and make better?

going around in circles

Values are the foundation for living happy successful lives.

You deserve happiness, abundance and health. The key to your happiness is you. When you know your values, and live your life by your values, you are a happier and healthier person. Often people live their lives without knowing their values and they make decisions based on other people’s expectations. When people make decisions this way they aren’t living the life they are meant to live! They are unhappy and live a life of lack, of wanting more in one or more areas of their lives.

I used to live my life without knowing my values. I wasn’t living my truth. I wasn’t being the me that I wanted to be, I wasn’t doing what I wanted to do, and I wasn’t living how I wanted to live.

Have you ever been in a canoe on a windy day, and paddling just didn’t seem to get you anywhere? I’ve been in a canoe on a windy day, and my paddling wasn’t getting me anywhere. The canoe would go this way and that way. I was facing the wrong direction. I tried to correct my direction by turning the canoe. I was going in a new direction but it still wasn’t the direction that I wanted to go. I was going around in circles and not getting anywhere.

This is how my life felt when I wasn’t living by my values. I made decisions based on what was expected of me, or what I thought was expected of me. I didn’t have my values clearly defined and written down. I didn’t have significant goals for myself in all areas of my life.

It was like the canoe going in all different directions but the direction that I wanted it to. I was going around in circles in my life.

When I was in the canoe on that windy day, it was a challenge for me to get the canoe going in the right direction without making some major changes. I had to trim the canoe, to find a better balance from where to paddle. I turned myself around in the canoe so that I paddled backward to move forward. After struggling, I found my balance and was able to move in the direction that I wanted to more easily and steadily.

My balance was off in my life as well. I was unhappy and unhealthy.

I gradually realized that I wasn’t living by my values, and what my values meant to me. I read a book, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey. I clarified my values, I wrote my values down along with what the value meant to me. I set significant goals in all areas of my life.

I found my balance and started growing in the direction that I wanted to go. I started being who I wanted to be, doing what I wanted to do and living how I wanted to live!

I took responsibility for my life. I am happy and harmonious with my mind at peace with my heart.

Values are a belief that is meaningful to you. Values are priorities that tell you how to spend your time, right here, right now. Stephen Covey says, “(values) are the source of our passions in life, and they help us determine where we focus our energies.”

When you know your values and what they mean to you; creating goals and making decisions are easier. Your values are your guidance system.

And like finding the balance in a canoe on a windy day, knowing your values is like finding your balance for your life. You choose to live by your values, and living by your values creates your happy and harmonious life.

Balance Priorities

What is balance?

Do you feel balanced in your life? If you do, that may be good. If you don’t, that is good.

Balance is doing what is most important to you in the NOW moment, and knowing what you also want to do for the other areas of your life.

dsc03821A negative balance is when you feel negative emotions because of the decisions that you have made.

A positive balance is when you feel positive because you are doing what is most important to you.

Feeling off-balance is an indicator that you have wants. Wants are good. I believe that we are never actually balanced, there is a balance of activities so that we are not neglecting any one part of our lives, but that is it.

Being off-balance is feeling the difference between where you are and where you want to go. It is growth. It is expansion.

“Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of security only as he is moving forward.” ~Maxwell Maltz

Being aware of that difference is good, and you will feel more in balance when you are aware of the differences of who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to experience and take action to become, to do, to experience what you want.

Where are you feeling off-balance? What can you do for that area that is important to you NOW? What growth/expansion do you want in your life to be who you want to be, do what you want to do and experience what you want to experience?

Letting go

I’m wondering how to let go.

How do I let go?

How do I trust the Universe and allow?

dscn1306I believe that everything is perfectly as it should be, but, I try to control. I try to control because I have a lack of belief, not trusting.

I know that there is a balance of taking action. Staying in the positive feeling and doing what’s most important to me. Doing things based on my priorities.

I’m scared. Scared of not succeeding, so I am not choosing action in the moment that supports my visions.

I go back and forth, making positive choices and taking positive action and making negative choices that don’t support my vision. It would be easy to stop, but that’s now what I truly want.

I decide again. I commit! I commit to choosing what I want! Choosing my visions!

Act as if! Let go and allow! Trust and believe!

Live Your Truth!

I want to ‘enjoy the journey’! I want to enjoy the day-to-day, the daily living – the relationships I have and the activities I’m involved in and not become too focused on my visions and goals. And, I want to enjoy my visions and goals – the creating and becoming who I want to be doing what I want to do and living how I want to live. I’ve realized that balance has quite a bit to do with living life fully and to ‘enjoy the journey’! There is a balance to daily living and creating visions.

It is easy to get caught up in living day-to-day and your visions and goals becoming a memory and not a focus. It is easy to get caught up in your visions and goals and not enjoy and appreciate what you presently have in your life.

Living day-to-day you can be carried away by the seemingly endless to-do list. You know the list that is ever expanding and never shrinking. The list that at times seems to scream at you, ‘YOU have this activity! AND this responsibility, AND don’t forget that!’ A list and schedule that doesn’t seem to include free time for you to relax or do what YOU want to do.

Living with your eyes only on your vision you can develop blinders that don’t allow you to experience the life that is going on around you. You become so focused on your vision and goals you don’t take time for important relationships in your life, you don’t take time for rest relaxation and rejuvenation.

Balance is a delicate thought and idea. When day-to-day activities, daily living responsibilities grab hold and seem to overcome any thoughts of vision and goals – thoughts can become negative, of lack and wanting, of not being aware of growth, and you can become overwhelmed feeling.

That is when you need to clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.

When focus on one vision or one area of life is front and center day after day or week after week, you become enveloped by that vision and awareness of your other visions and goals fade. The lack of thought and attention on the ‘slipped from memory’ visions or areas of life leads to thoughts that can become negative, of lack and wanting for the forgotten areas of life when the visions and goals do enter mind.

That is when you need to clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.

Balance in daily living and your visions and goals is balancing the different areas of your life, prioritizing what is important to you, not focusing too much on one vision, not forgetting the visions in other areas of life. Balance in daily living isn’t accomplished in one day, rather a week or another sequence of days. Today a priority of family relationships, tomorrow a priority for my vision of working from home and time freedom, the day after a priority of personal growth or rejuvenation.

It is easy to be pulled off balance, or feeling as if you are going in circles. Life is an ever expanding spiral of growth. Growth is being aware of where you are, where you want to be, and defining and clarifying what you want in all areas of your life. As you grow in awareness your visions, goals and priorities change. You can feel discord as the balance shifts; your balance must change and grow too.

Have you been overwhelmed with day-to-day activities and responsibilities? Or have you become enveloped by one vision? If you are feeling off balance, or that you are going around in circles, clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.
