going around in circles

Values are the foundation for living happy successful lives.

You deserve happiness, abundance and health. The key to your happiness is you. When you know your values, and live your life by your values, you are a happier and healthier person. Often people live their lives without knowing their values and they make decisions based on other people’s expectations. When people make decisions this way they aren’t living the life they are meant to live! They are unhappy and live a life of lack, of wanting more in one or more areas of their lives.

I used to live my life without knowing my values. I wasn’t living my truth. I wasn’t being the me that I wanted to be, I wasn’t doing what I wanted to do, and I wasn’t living how I wanted to live.

Have you ever been in a canoe on a windy day, and paddling just didn’t seem to get you anywhere? I’ve been in a canoe on a windy day, and my paddling wasn’t getting me anywhere. The canoe would go this way and that way. I was facing the wrong direction. I tried to correct my direction by turning the canoe. I was going in a new direction but it still wasn’t the direction that I wanted to go. I was going around in circles and not getting anywhere.

This is how my life felt when I wasn’t living by my values. I made decisions based on what was expected of me, or what I thought was expected of me. I didn’t have my values clearly defined and written down. I didn’t have significant goals for myself in all areas of my life.

It was like the canoe going in all different directions but the direction that I wanted it to. I was going around in circles in my life.

When I was in the canoe on that windy day, it was a challenge for me to get the canoe going in the right direction without making some major changes. I had to trim the canoe, to find a better balance from where to paddle. I turned myself around in the canoe so that I paddled backward to move forward. After struggling, I found my balance and was able to move in the direction that I wanted to more easily and steadily.

My balance was off in my life as well. I was unhappy and unhealthy.

I gradually realized that I wasn’t living by my values, and what my values meant to me. I read a book, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey. I clarified my values, I wrote my values down along with what the value meant to me. I set significant goals in all areas of my life.

I found my balance and started growing in the direction that I wanted to go. I started being who I wanted to be, doing what I wanted to do and living how I wanted to live!

I took responsibility for my life. I am happy and harmonious with my mind at peace with my heart.

Values are a belief that is meaningful to you. Values are priorities that tell you how to spend your time, right here, right now. Stephen Covey says, “(values) are the source of our passions in life, and they help us determine where we focus our energies.”

When you know your values and what they mean to you; creating goals and making decisions are easier. Your values are your guidance system.

And like finding the balance in a canoe on a windy day, knowing your values is like finding your balance for your life. You choose to live by your values, and living by your values creates your happy and harmonious life.

Balance Priorities

What is balance?

Do you feel balanced in your life? If you do, that may be good. If you don’t, that is good.

Balance is doing what is most important to you in the NOW moment, and knowing what you also want to do for the other areas of your life.

dsc03821A negative balance is when you feel negative emotions because of the decisions that you have made.

A positive balance is when you feel positive because you are doing what is most important to you.

Feeling off-balance is an indicator that you have wants. Wants are good. I believe that we are never actually balanced, there is a balance of activities so that we are not neglecting any one part of our lives, but that is it.

Being off-balance is feeling the difference between where you are and where you want to go. It is growth. It is expansion.

“Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of security only as he is moving forward.” ~Maxwell Maltz

Being aware of that difference is good, and you will feel more in balance when you are aware of the differences of who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to experience and take action to become, to do, to experience what you want.

Where are you feeling off-balance? What can you do for that area that is important to you NOW? What growth/expansion do you want in your life to be who you want to be, do what you want to do and experience what you want to experience?

Life Goals

I’ve been thinking about life goals. Goals that if accomplished or taking action in, you will have the feeling of enjoying a fulfilled life. You feel that you are living your life successfully and joyfully.

What does living your life successfully mean to you? How do you feel, or how would you feel, when you are living your life fully? Are you experiencing your life to the fullest?

Life goals are a method for creating and balancing your life so that you feel you are living a fulfilled life.

When you know what your life goals are – your goals are in alignment with your values and purpose, and you are taking action to achieve those goals – your life is lived with happiness and growth, a feeling of fulfillment.

A life goal is a goal that if you accomplished or experienced, you would feel your life was a success, as you define your success.

What does success mean to you?

What do you want to accomplish?

What do you want to experience?

Who do you want to BE? What do you want to DO? How do you want to live?

Create your life and enjoy your life journey!

Good or Should?

Do I do what’s good for me – or what I should do? Will my day flow smoothly when I choose to do what’s good for me? Will I feel guilty about doing what’s good for my body and health rather than what I judge I should be doing?

I have chosen my health, am I feeling an old paradigm – feeling uncertainty as I change and transform to a new paradigm that fits me better now?

I am not as positive and as present as I could be when doing some activities. I make a decision to do a certain activity instead of another activity I judge I could do or should do, and I wonder and worry when I will be able to do the other activity(s). I’m not fully committed to my decision.

I do the justification in my mind – weighing the two choices between each other. Thinking about priorities and the balance of all areas and activities for my life.

I want to decide, then do the activity. I want to let go the other activity(s) until it’s that activities time. I will let go and allow myself to be present and to be positive.

Time to experiment and experience life…

Choosing to do an activity for my health and body and having other priorities for the day to balance created in me a sense of urgency. My focus was good and I was more connected to my inner being. I was productive before enjoying the healthy activity and after doing the healthy activity. My day flowed smoothly.

I am very good at over planning my days –today I accomplished the majority of what I have on my list – with a sense that what I don’t get done I’ll have a good start on, and that I’ll accomplish the last couple of items with no busy-overwhelm feelings.

Choosing what was good for me was very good! It was easy for me to go with the flow and to stay focused getting a lot done. I enjoy feeling and being connected to my inner being – listening and being guided by my intuition.

I will choose what I want to do by what feels good and positive to me!

Are you choosing what feels good to you? Or are you choosing what you judge you should do?

Living Life

Are you living your life? Or is life living you?

I recently had a couple of days of my life living me! Activities from many areas of my life were begging for my attention, I was feeling pulled in all directions at one time, wanting to focus on this area and this area, but oh what about this commitment and this activity, what about time with this person and that person?

We all have days that we live our life, guide our days and create the life we want to live. We all have days that our life is living us. Overwhelm is present, or just lurking around the corner; ready to overtake the day.

Here are some tips for you to LIVE YOUR LIFE rather than life living you.

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” ~Vivian Greene

To live your life, guiding your days and creating your life – be aware, let go and be present.

When your life is living you BE AWARE

  • Is the activity related to your goals?
  • Does the activity align with your values?
  • Is the activity a high priority?
  • Can the activity be released because of change, new awareness or growth?

When your life is living you LET GO

  • There are times when we need to let life lead
  • Go with the flow rather than resist what is coming at us
  • It is okay to focus on only one or two areas of your life for a short time
  • Balance happens throughout your life – one moment at a time, one day at a time, one week at a time, one year at a time

When your life is living you BE PRESENT

  • Do not fret about the past
  • Do not worry about the future
  • Focus on the task or activity in front of you now
  • By being present you will accomplish tasks quicker and be able to move to the next task accomplishing more in a day, week and year

Life does happen! Life is good! When we have days when life is living us – we can be aware, we can let go, and we can be present! We can begin living our lives, guiding our days and creating the life we want to live from that moment!

Balance

I want to ‘enjoy the journey’! I want to enjoy the day-to-day, the daily living – the relationships I have and the activities I’m involved in and not become too focused on my visions and goals. And, I want to enjoy my visions and goals – the creating and becoming who I want to be doing what I want to do and living how I want to live. I’ve realized that balance has quite a bit to do with living life fully and to ‘enjoy the journey’! There is a balance to daily living and creating visions.

It is easy to get caught up in living day-to-day and your visions and goals becoming a memory and not a focus. It is easy to get caught up in your visions and goals and not enjoy and appreciate what you presently have in your life.

Living day-to-day you can be carried away by the seemingly endless to-do list. You know the list that is ever expanding and never shrinking. The list that at times seems to scream at you, ‘YOU have this activity! AND this responsibility, AND don’t forget that!’ A list and schedule that doesn’t seem to include free time for you to relax or do what YOU want to do.

Living with your eyes only on your vision you can develop blinders that don’t allow you to experience the life that is going on around you. You become so focused on your vision and goals you don’t take time for important relationships in your life, you don’t take time for rest relaxation and rejuvenation.

Balance is a delicate thought and idea. When day-to-day activities, daily living responsibilities grab hold and seem to overcome any thoughts of vision and goals – thoughts can become negative, of lack and wanting, of not being aware of growth, and you can become overwhelmed feeling.

That is when you need to clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.

When focus on one vision or one area of life is front and center day after day or week after week, you become enveloped by that vision and awareness of your other visions and goals fade. The lack of thought and attention on the ‘slipped from memory’ visions or areas of life leads to thoughts that can become negative, of lack and wanting for the forgotten areas of life when the visions and goals do enter mind.

That is when you need to clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.

Balance in daily living and your visions and goals is balancing the different areas of your life, prioritizing what is important to you, not focusing too much on one vision, not forgetting the visions in other areas of life. Balance in daily living isn’t accomplished in one day, rather a week or another sequence of days. Today a priority of family relationships, tomorrow a priority for my vision of working from home and time freedom, the day after a priority of personal growth or rejuvenation.

It is easy to be pulled off balance, or feeling as if you are going in circles. Life is an ever expanding spiral of growth. Growth is being aware of where you are, where you want to be, and defining and clarifying what you want in all areas of your life. As you grow in awareness your visions, goals and priorities change. You can feel discord as the balance shifts; your balance must change and grow too.

Have you been overwhelmed with day-to-day activities and responsibilities? Or have you become enveloped by one vision? If you are feeling off balance, or that you are going around in circles, clarify and define your visions goals and priorities.
